CarAdvisers Insight & Advice

From a road-user perspective, the most important issue is route planning rather than simply avoiding Islamabad altogether. The traffic plan provides multiple alternatives, but several major corridors normally used between Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be affected simultaneously.

Drivers travelling through the Expressway, H-8, Faizabad or Srinagar Highway should therefore check the latest ITP instructions before departure. This is particularly important for commercial vehicles, airport travellers and motorists with time-sensitive journeys.

ITP has advised citizens to monitor FM 92.4 and its official social media channels for real-time traffic updates.

Heavy traffic entering Islamabad will remain restricted until midnight on August 14, 2026.

Which area is most affected by the Independence Day traffic plan?

Roads around Yadgar-e-Fatah in H-8, along with sections of the Islamabad Expressway, Faisal Avenue, Srinagar Highway and Shakarparian, are among the key affected areas.

Can motorists still travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi?

Yes. Traffic will be diverted onto designated alternative routes, including 9th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, Murree Road and other connecting roads depending on the destination.

What route should airport passengers use?

ITP has advised airport travellers to use Margalla Road, Jinnah Avenue, Peshawar Mor Flyover, Srinagar Highway and Iran Avenue.

Where can motorists get traffic updates?

ITP has advised citizens to follow its official channels and tune into ITP FM 92.4 for real-time traffic information.

Conclusion

Islamabad's Independence Day traffic plan introduces significant but temporary restrictions around major corridors and the Yadgar-e-Fatah celebration venue in H-8. With heavy traffic restricted until August 14 and several routes diverted, motorists should plan journeys ahead of time and remain flexible about their routes.

For Islamabad and Rawalpindi drivers, checking the latest traffic information before departure will be particularly important during the restricted period.
