Commuters Continue to Raise Safety Concerns

Residents using the temporary diversions have repeatedly highlighted several safety and traffic management issues.

Some of the most common complaints include:

Narrow temporary roads
Uneven driving surfaces
Poor lane markings
Limited traffic control
Inadequate directional signage
Heavy dust caused by construction

The situation becomes even more challenging after rainfall, when water, mud, and loose construction material accumulate on diversion routes.

Many drivers have also reported concerns about vehicle suspension damage, while motorcyclists continue to face higher safety risks because of rough road conditions and reduced visibility.

Part of a Rs. 10 Billion Road Upgrade

The Margalla Enclave Underpass is only one component of the larger Rs. 10 billion Park Road Infrastructure Project.

The complete development includes several road improvement initiatives designed to modernize one of Islamabad's busiest transport corridors.

Development Component	Status
Margalla Enclave Underpass	Near Completion
Service Roads	Under Construction
Road Infrastructure Upgrades	Ongoing
Supporting Traffic Improvements	Ongoing

Once completed, the project is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and provide safer connectivity between Islamabad's rapidly expanding residential sectors.

What Should Commuters Expect Until Opening?

Until the underpass officially opens, commuters should continue to expect:

Peak hour traffic congestion
Temporary diversions
Slower travel speeds
Construction-related delays
Dusty road conditions

Authorities continue to advise motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allocate extra travel time while construction work enters its final stages.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the Margalla Enclave Underpass open?

According to the latest official update, the underpass is expected to open for traffic on July 30, 2026.

Which authority is constructing the project?

The project is being developed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

How much does the Park Road project cost?

The overall Park Road infrastructure project has an estimated cost of Rs. 10 billion.

Which areas will benefit from the underpass?

Residents of DHA Margalla Enclave, Bahria Enclave, Park View City, Park Enclave, Chak Shahzad, Shahzad Town, and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from improved connectivity.

Why is traffic currently so congested on Park Road?

Traffic congestion is mainly caused by ongoing construction work, temporary road diversions, reduced lane capacity, and increased vehicle volume during peak hours.

Final Thoughts

The Margalla Enclave Underpass represents one of Islamabad's most important road infrastructure projects in recent years. Although the construction phase has tested the patience of thousands of daily commuters, the expected opening on July 30, 2026, offers hope for smoother traffic flow and improved connectivity across southern Islamabad.

Until then, motorists should continue planning for additional travel time and exercise extra caution while using temporary diversion routes. If the project is completed on schedule, it could significantly ease congestion on Park Road and improve the daily commuting experience for residents across the capital.
