Why This Matters for Pakistan's Automotive Market

Vehicle ownership transfers in Pakistan have traditionally involved multiple visits to government offices for identity verification.

The new digital verification process offers several advantages:

Reduced waiting times at NADRA centers
Faster identity authentication
Improved transaction security
Greater convenience for buyers and sellers
Enhanced digital record management

While the final ownership transfer still requires a visit to the Excise & Taxation Department, removing the separate biometric verification visit is expected to streamline the overall process.

Feature Comparison

Feature	Previous Process	New Pak ID Service
Biometric Verification	NADRA Office Visit Required	Complete from Home
Vehicle Card	Physical Only	Digital Card (Balochistan)
Payment	Physical Counter	Digital Payments
Verification Receipt	Printed	Digital Download
Final Ownership Transfer	Excise Office	Excise Office (Still Required)

CarAdvisers Insight

According to CarAdvisers' market analysis, Pakistan's automotive sector is steadily embracing digital public services. Online biometric verification reduces administrative delays while improving convenience for private vehicle buyers and sellers.

CarAdvisers observes that expanding this service nationwide could significantly improve the ownership transfer experience, especially in larger cities where government offices often experience heavy footfall.

Future Outlook

NADRA is expected to continue expanding digital vehicle services in collaboration with provincial Excise & Taxation Departments.

Future updates may include:

Wider provincial integration
Additional digital vehicle document services
Fully online ownership transfer workflows
Enhanced identity verification technologies

If implemented nationwide, these services could become an important part of Pakistan's growing digital government ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer vehicle ownership completely online?

No. The Pak ID app only replaces NADRA's biometric verification. The final ownership transfer must still be completed at the relevant Excise & Taxation Department.

Which Pak ID version supports vehicle transfer?

The feature is available in Pak ID version 5.6.8.

Which regions currently support the service?

The rollout currently includes Balochistan, Islamabad, Punjab, and Sindh in coordination with their respective Excise departments.

Do I need a mobile number registered on my CNIC?

Yes. The Pak ID account must use a mobile number registered against your own CNIC for successful authentication.

Can I pay online?

Yes. Payments can be made through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or supported debit and credit cards.

Conclusion

NADRA's latest Pak ID update marks another step toward digitizing Pakistan's automotive services. By enabling remote biometric verification and introducing digital vehicle cards, the authority has reduced one of the most time-consuming parts of the vehicle transfer process. Although buyers and sellers must still complete ownership formalities at the Excise Department, the new system offers greater convenience, improved security, and a smoother experience for vehicle transactions.
