Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can an overseas Pakistani import a used car older than 3 years?
No — under the updated 2026 policy, used cars older than three years are not permitted under Gift or Transfer of Residence schemes.
Is the imported car tradable immediately?
No — vehicles imported under these schemes must remain non-transferable for at least one year.
What documentation is required for importing a car?
Key documents include passport, Bill of Lading, invoice, proof of foreign exchange remittance, and clearance certificates. Customs may also require safety verification.
Will local car prices drop because of this policy?
Prices may stabilize rather than drop substantially due to the non-transferability period and controlled import channels limiting speculative influx.
Are hybrid or EV imports affected?
Hybrid and EV imports under these schemes follow the same age and scheme rules; additional incentives may apply under separate eco-friendly policies.

Final Verdict

The 2026 revision of vehicle import policy for overseas Pakistanis signals a strategic recalibration — preserving diaspora privileges while tightening misuse loopholes and strengthening environmental standards. For car buyers in Pakistan, this update introduces greater clarity, broader choice, and stronger protections. Market players and consumers alike should embrace this change as a foundational shift that enhances long-term stability in the used car ecosystem.
